Oil painting, framed of Alexander Wadsworth (1806-1898), by Frank Duveneck, 1889. 3/4 portrait of Alexander Wadsworth seated in a corner chair. Plaque on frame, lower center reads: "Alexander Wadsworth 1806-1898. A civil engineer of Boston who made the first topographical survey of Mount Auburn Cemetery in 1831 and laid out the avenues and paths of the original grounds much as they exist today." Frame dates to 1956. August 1, 1956 letter from Eliot Wadsworth to MAC mentions that "The cost of having the portrait restored and reframed is $500.00." |
