Handwritten contract between the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and the Proprietors of Mount Auburn Cemetery signed and sealed by a committee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society on June 19th, 1835. Secretary of the Proprietors Charles P. Curtis acted as Justice of the Peace and signed as witness for the signatures of each of the aforementioned commitee on July 13th, 16th, 17th, and August 1st, 1835. Also included is a copy of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society's meeting minutes of June 6th, 1835, written and signed by the Society's Secretary Robert Treat Paine. The contract was filed in the Middlesex County Registry of Deeds on October 9th, 1835. The Proprietors paid $10.00 for approximately 110 acres of land with "stipulations" governing the price of lots and proceeds thereof. The contract is written on both sides of two unlined pages, both of which have horizontal adhesive staining in the center. |
