Handwritten letter from G.E. Foster of Boston moving company Blair & Skinner to Superintendent Colonel Charles W. Folsom dated August 7th, 1872. The letter regards the procedure and fee for lifting the Sphinx statue onto its pedestal. Foster charged $500 for their services and he explained how they would achieve its placement with screws, rollers, a capstan, and blocking. A note at the top of the letter is initialed by President John T. Bradlee and dated August 13th, 1872; the note indicates that a contract with Blair and Skinner was approved for $450 and that the work was complete. The letter is on one side of a single lined paper sheet. |
