Handwritten extracts from Trustee Records of the statuary committees summarizing their actions from 1851 to 1855 regarding the contract with William Wetmore Story for sculpting a statue of his father Joseph Story. The extracts begin to mark committee votes in 1851, six years after the contract commenced in 1845. They voted in (chronological order): that Story could use American marble in place of Italian, that a full-size model of the statue be made available by Story, that the contract with Story be allowed to resign his commission and cancel the agreement, that a new committee contract anew with Story, that President Jacob Bigelow decide with Story about a pedestal, and that Trustee Charles P. Curtis be made a committee to oversee the importation of the statue from Italy and its exhibition at the Athenaeum in Boston. Each extract denotes pages from the original Records of the Trustees with corresponding dates. The extracts are written in black ink on boths sides of lined and conjoined pages with original post holes apparent. |
