Hand-written letter from Trustee Jacob Bigelow to President John T. Bradlee dated August 25th, 1872. Bigelow wrote in his capacity as Chairman of both the Committee on Grounds and the Subcommittee on the Sphinx. He acknowledged the placement of the Sphinx statue on the grounds and invited Bradlee to a planned meeting on 5pm the following day at the Sphinx site with sculptor Martin Milmore, and Superintendent Colonel Charles W. Folsom to discuss remaining work on the statue as well its enclosure and eventual public opening. He indicated that details of the meeting would be sent to the newspapers afterwards for publication the next day. The letter is written on both sides of an unlined desk stationery sheet embossed with Bigelow's last name initial. |
